Mabou Oyster Aquafarms  and  Sam's Point Oysters

Picture
At the 14th Annual Aquaculture Harvest Festival (held in Waycobah, N.S.) Geoff Nishi provided an oyster shucking demonstration and dished out sweet oysters from Mabou harbour.  “These are exceptional oysters and we sell them to local restaurants,” he said in the midst of a demonstration. “They are so sweet because the water is so clean and there are so many nutrients in it.”Nishi has been involved in the oyster industry in Mabou since 2005 and expects business to continue to grow. - Courtesy of the Cape Breton Post - September 25th, 2011

Mabou Oyster Aquafarms harvest wild and culture oysters in Mabou Harbour. The Mabou Oyster is known for its round, heavy and deeply cupped shell and the quality of its flavour.

Sam's Point Oysters is a family owned business which works on a lease in Mabou Harbour and use sustainable methods in growing and harvesting our oysters. Their goals are to mimic the natural process as much as possible, have the least impact in the ecosystem and focus our business within our local community.

In that spirit, they mostly supply small batches to local restaurants and private orders and can ship orders using the Maritime Bus line (http://www.maritimebus.com/).

However, you can visit them at the Mabou Farmers Market on Sundays! Not only do we sell oysters by the dozen there, but also oysters shucked and cooked right before your eyes!

For more information about Sam's Point Oysters, contact Jeff Lee (902) 945-2800 or (902)258-5233 .
